How to switch pharmacies in Edmonton (and why we make it easy).

Most patients put off switching pharmacies because they assume it's a hassle. It isn't. There's no doctor visit, no new prescription, no awkward call to your old pharmacy. The new pharmacy does everything for you. Here's exactly how it works.

What a pharmacy transfer actually involves

Switching pharmacies is a straightforward, professionally managed process that the new pharmacy handles on your behalf. When you transfer to Acme Drug Mart, we contact your current pharmacy directly. Under Alberta College of Pharmacy standards, your existing pharmacy is required to release your prescription history. Your existing prescriptions transfer with all remaining refills intact.

It's an entirely administrative process. You don't have to break up with your old pharmacy. You don't have to ask permission. You just have to tell us where to call.

What you need: just three things

  • Your full legal name
  • Your date of birth
  • The name and phone number of your current pharmacy

Optional, if you have them handy: medication names or photos of your prescription bottles. They speed things up but they're not required.

Three ways to transfer to Acme Drug Mart

Call

(780) 443-0202. Fastest method. We can usually have everything ready before end of business if you call during pharmacy hours.

Email

acmepharmacyltd@gmail.com with the three details above. We'll confirm receipt and start the transfer immediately.

In person

Walk into Unit 103, 15508 87 Ave NW (Meadowlark Place, West Edmonton). The pharmacist on duty completes the form with you in under five minutes.

How long does it take?

Most pharmacy transfers complete within 24 hours. Same-day processing is the norm if we get your details during business hours. Delays sometimes happen if the old pharmacy is unresponsive or your record is archived.

One important exception: controlled-substance prescriptions (opioids, certain anxiety or sleep medications) generally require a fresh prescription from your physician rather than a direct transfer. That's a federal regulation, not our preference. We'll tell you up front if any of your prescriptions fall into that category and walk you through the next step.

Why patients switch to Acme Drug Mart

  • Personalised service from a pharmacist who knows your name and your medications
  • Free same-day delivery anywhere in Edmonton
  • An on-site prescribing pharmacist for minor ailments and prescription renewals
  • Direct insurance billing
  • Free parking and full accessibility

What about loyalty programs?

Most chain pharmacy loyalty programs return roughly 0.5% in points value on purchases. If you spend $200 a month on medications, that's about $12 a year. Compare that to free delivery (saves you a trip every refill), pharmacist prescribing (saves you a doctor's visit), and the time you don't spend in a queue. The math is not close.
